About Bratislava

Bratislava is the capital city of the Slovak Republic.

The Slovak Republic is a sovereign state in Central Europe. The Slovakia became an independent state on 1 January 1993 after the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia. It has a population of over five million and an area of about 49,000 square kilometres (19,000 sq mi). Slovakia is bordered by the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south. Slovakia has been a member of European Union since 2004.
Slovakia features natural landscapes, mountains, caves, medieval castles and towns, folk architecture, spas and ski resorts. The Slovak landscape is noted primarily for its mountainous nature, with the Carpathian Mountains extending across most of the northern half of the country. The mostly known are High Tatras Mts. Slovakia has hundreds of caves and caverns under its mountains. There are currently five Slovak caves under UNESCO’s World Heritage Site status. The Slovak republic is well-known in neighbouring countries as well as worldwide also for the spas. There are many thermal parks and wellness centres throughout the country visited by tourists for the beneficial effects of thermal water on the human body.
Prices of imported products are generally the same as in the neighbouring countries, whereas prices of local products and services, especially food, are usually lower. The official currency is Euro.
