On the 120th anniversary of the birth of a significant Slovak geologist of Russian origin, the founder and first director of the SGIDŠ Dimitriy Andrusov

and on the occasion of the 190th anniversary of the birth of the most significant Slovakian geologist of the 19th century, Dionýz Štúr, the Dionýz Štúr Award and the SGIDŠ Medals were ceremonially handed over. The celebration took place on 7 November 2017 at the premises of the State Geological Institute Dionýz Štúr in Bratislava. The laureates proposed by the SGIDŠ Scientific Council were granted awards by the General Director of the SGIDŠ for their significant contribution to scientific knowledge in the field of geology. The event was held under the auspices of the Minister of the Environment of the Slovak Republic Ing. László Sólymos.

Dionýz Štúr Award in the Personality category

was presented by the General Director of the Section of Geology and Natural Resources of the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic. RNDr. Vlasta Jánová, PhD., and SGIDŠ General Director Ing. Branislav Žec, CSc. to

Prof. RNDr. Michal Kováč, DrSc.,

Head of the Department of Geology and Paleontology of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Comenius University in Bratislava.

Dionýz Štúr Award in the Collective Team category

was presented by the General Director of the Section of Geology and Natural Resources of the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic. RNDr. Vlasta Jánová, PhD., and SGIDŠ General Director Ing. Branislav Žec, CSc. to

Faculty of Mining, Ecology, Process Control and Geotechnologies of the Technical University in Košice, represented by the Dean of the Faculty prof. Ing. Michal Cehlár, PhD. MBA.
